The autofill extension
Fill an application from your profile, attach the tailored documents, never submit
Commuter autofill is a browser extension that fills a job application form from your profile and attaches the resume and cover letter Commuter rendered for that posting. It never submits: you read the page, then you press the button.
Included with Professional and Scale, and during your free period. When the free period ends on a plan that does not include it, the extension stops working on its own; there is nothing to uninstall or revoke.
Install
Get it from the Chrome Web Store: Commuter autofill. Settings links the same page, in the Autofill extension panel.
- Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension. In Edge, allow extensions from other stores when it asks.
- Optional: pin it. Puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to Commuter autofill.
Works in Chrome, Edge and Brave, version 116 or newer. Not Firefox or Safari. The store installs updates on its own.
- Keep your board open in a tab.
- Click the extension icon. A panel opens beside the page.
- Click Sign in with Commuter, then Connect. The panel takes a personal token from your signed-in board tab; nothing to copy.
If that does not work in your browser, Settings can generate the token by hand. It is shown once; paste it under Or paste a personal token. Generating again replaces the old token. Revoke in Settings turns the extension off everywhere at once. Tokens expire after 90 days; sign in again from the panel.
Fill an application
- Open the application form. Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby get hand-written rules; Workday, iCIMS and company career pages go through Commuter's form mapping. The first fill on any other site asks the browser for permission for that one site.
- Click the icon, then Fill this page.
- Read the result:
- Green outline: filled from your profile, or a file attached.
- Amber: an answer drafted from your facts and the posting. Read it before you submit.
- Blank, and listed in the panel: nothing in your profile supports an answer. Nothing is guessed.
- Submit it yourself. The extension has no submit.
The resume and letter it attaches are the ones on the card for that posting. If the posting is not on your board, your base resume is attached instead and there is no cover letter; the panel says so.
Fields you fill in by hand can be kept: Remember these sends your answers to your fact source, so the next form gets them as facts.
What it sends
Only to Commuter: your token, the page address (to find your documents), and the labels and choices of the fields the rules could not fill, so Commuter can map them to your facts. Never what you typed into a form, never the page itself. It runs only when you click; nothing watches pages in the background.
Drafted answers and form mapping count against your monthly assistant budget, like tailoring.
